Trail Running Festival at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve

Trail Running Festival at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve

I absolutely love checking out a new race in the area. This new race had three distances to choose from. The Badass Boar 48k, the Hungry Horsefly Half and the Torpid Tortoise 12k. I've heard of this trail before and I know of its technical torture! So, I decided to only tackle the Torpid Tortoise 12k.
The trail was beautiful!!!  Lots of switchbacks and tree roots a plenty. A gorgeous overlook area with a bench to take a break was about halfway.

A huge start/finish area under beautiful oak trees gave you an area to setup your own personal aid station for those doing the Ultra distance.

Just a snippet of the various trails within the preserve. Information signs and lots of trail markers so you don't get lost. There are 2,500 acres of land to explore.

I have added the map of the 12K route, since it was a combination of trails.  There are two trail heads for this preserve. We all started from the Creek Shore Trail, the second entrance of Turnbull Bay Rd where the disc golf course is located.  This is a very popular mountain bike trail as well so there are a few small bridges along the way.

Overall, I would definitely do this race again! I recommend some trail running practice as it is different than road running. You are always looking down for roots and root knobs sticking up waiting to trip you up.  Kudos to Runners High Timing & Race Management and The Running Elements Team for an excellent race!!!

Happy Running!!!!
xoxo Danielle
